Megan Bruns
Director of Development
Thanks to the commitment of our coaches, students – and especially the unwavering support from parents – rowing at Latymer continues to go from strength to strength. We are proud to be achieving higher levels of national and international successes, putting us in a position to build on our momentum and firmly establish rowing as a beacon sport for Latymer.
We continue to be delighted with the many ways that the community has responded to support the growing interest in rowing, whether providing hands-on support like the weekend breakfast duty or funding the boathouse gym renovation, Latymer rowing families have always answered enthusiastically when the need for support arises. Our ultimate goal is for any Latymer student to have the best rowing experience they could have, making Latymer the School for rowing.
Though we do not charge additional fees for rowing here at Latymer, unlike most schools, there are still financial barriers that may prevent some students from taking part. Our aim is to establish a Fund that will remove these financial barriers and help provide support to any student who would otherwise struggle to cover the following expenses.
£35 – would provide breakfast for a month, helping students refuel after morning training.
£75 – would contribute towards transport costs to early morning training sessions, when neither public or parental transport is available.
£300 – would provide a Club Rowing Blazer, proudly worn at Henley Royal Regatta as a timeless reminder of our rowers’ lifelong connection to LUSBC.
£395 – will provide a week’s Summer Camp at Latymer, giving a Middle School student the opportunity to experience the joy of rowing.
£460 – would fund all essential LUSBC racing kit, including an All in One, splash jacket, baselayer, leggings and accessories like water bottles, wraparound sunglasses, gloves, club tie and waterproof socks.
£550 – would cover a student’s attendance at the GB Trials, a key stepping stone for an elite rower.
£750 – would cover the cost of a student’s trip to Seville, giving a senior rower invaluable training experience alongside top rowing schools from across the UK.
£1,500 – will support a student invited to the Junior World Championships, enabling a Latymer rower to represent Great Britain at this prestigious event and to attend the preparation training camps.
In order to be able to promote this as an option to Latymer students, new and existing, next academic year, we are hoping to have sufficient funding in place by the end of August to launch this Fund. The fantastic news is that thanks to the generosity of the rowing community we’ve already secured £16,000 to get us started.
